Dos and donts as a corporate comedian
Corporate entertainment may be one of the lucrative areas in
the entertainment industry. However the success of the comedian might be posed
to great risk depending on how one engages his audience during performances. Before
you go for the call, it is important to have in mind the kind of audience you
are going to entertain. Failure to do so,
you might end up getting it all wrong and this may be your downward move as an
entertainer.
When all is set and your audience is ready, there are things
you should be careful not to do when engaging them. First and foremost, do not
pick on guests especially in the presence of the bosses. This will definitely create an uneasy feeling
and your presence in that event will be irrelevant. Well, this mode of
engagement may apply at other events but for corporate just try to be smart.
Another thing to note carefully is that, the audience at the
corporate event has not purposely come there to see an entertainer. The
entertainer is there to create a different feeling and make the event more
entertaining by breaking monotony that may be created by the corporate language.
This most of the times affects comedians who are doing a corporate gig for the
first time. One may feel that the audience is boring when they seem not to be
interested in the jokes made by the comedian. Patient here comes in handy and
as one advances in this profession, experience will eventually come to his
rescue.
Also one should avoid using vulgar jokes at a corporate
event. Well, the jokes might amuse the audience greatly but they find it hard
to show their excitement in front of their managers or even team members.
Be careful when you make jokes about the industry the
audience belongs to. They have probably heard a lot jokes in the past and yours
might just be a repetition. However, a
comedian can make jokes of the industry he used to belong, before taking on
comedy or entertainment.
