Celebrating Legends: The Story of M'bilia Bel
Mbilia Bel famously known as "Queen of Rumba" started singing at the age of seventeen as a backup-singer and her breakthrough moment would later come when she became Tabu Ley's protegee.
She rose to fame with the help of Tabu Ley Rochereau and Sam Manguana who really helped her to gain confidence, teach her how to take the full control of her powerful soprano-voice and to reach to the summit of being one of the best Congolese female singers in 1981.
"Eswi yo Wapi" was her first Music album to be released in early 1982 which saw her win Zaire’s award for “Industry’s New Comer”. With her stunning beauty, voice and exceptional dancing skills, Mbilia Bel would always light up the stage and leave the audience in tears everywhere she performed.
With her outstanding dance moves, Mbilia won hearts of many rhumba fanatics in Africa and across borders. The world was dying to see this African Queen and she was the main attraction in almost every concert.
She would later get married to her best friend and mentor, Taby Ley in the mid-eighties but unfortunately, they parted ways and she moved to Paris.
She took some time off when she had her first baby but later toured West Africa, U.S., and U.K and still managed to attract big crowds.
Today, Mbilia Bel uses her talent to mentor the youth across the world!
